01. Describe the leak
How fast is it dropping, and can you see what's in it? Photos help. We'll tell you on the phone whether it sounds repairable.
02. Locate and confirm
On arrival we find the leak with soap solution and confirm its position relative to the repairable zone.
03. Dismount and inspect
The tire comes off the rim. We inspect the inner liner for driving damage. This is the step that everybody who plugs from the outside skips.
04. Patch-plug from the inside
The channel is cleaned and reamed, and a combination patch-plug is installed and sealed to the liner.
05. Balance, torque, verify
Remounted, balanced, pressure set to the door placard and lugs torqued to spec. We verify the repair holds before we leave.
WHAT YOU SHOULD ACTUALLY KNOW
The repairable zone is smaller than you think
Industry standard: punctures may be repaired only in the crown of the tread, generally the center portion of the tread width, and only if the hole is a quarter inch or smaller. Sidewall and shoulder punctures are never repairable. That's not a shop policy — it's the difference between a tire that holds and a tire that comes apart at highway speed.
Why string plugs are a lie
A string plug pushed in from the outside never touches the inner liner and never gets inspected. Air migrates between the plies, the belts rust, and the tire fails weeks later somewhere inconvenient. A proper repair means the tire comes off the rim, the inside is examined, and a combination patch-plug seals the liner and fills the channel.
How to find a leak yourself
Mix dish soap and water in a spray bottle. Spray the tread, the sidewall, the valve stem and the entire bead where the tire meets the rim. Bubbles show you the leak. Half the 'mystery leaks' we get called for turn out to be a $5 valve stem or a corroded bead.
Check pressure cold, and use the door placard
The number on the tire's sidewall is the maximum pressure the tire can hold, not the pressure your vehicle wants. Use the placard inside the driver's door jamb, and check when the tires have been sitting for a few hours — driving heats them and inflates the reading.

Can you repair a nail in my sidewall?
No, and neither should anyone else. Sidewall flex is constant and no repair holds there. A sidewall puncture, a bulge or a shoulder puncture means the tire is finished. We'll quote a replacement — and we'd rather lose the sale than put you back on the road on a tire that fails at 70.
Is a plug or a patch better?
Neither alone. The correct repair is a combination patch-plug installed from inside the tire after it's been dismounted and inspected. A plug alone doesn't seal the liner; a patch alone doesn't fill the puncture channel.
How long does a proper tire repair last in Cincinnati?
A correctly installed patch-plug in the tread crown is a permanent repair — it lasts the remaining life of the tire. That's the whole point of doing it correctly.
My tire is losing air but I can't find a nail.
Then it's probably the valve stem or the bead seal, especially on an alloy wheel that's been through a few Ohio winters. Spray soapy water on the stem and all the way around where the tire meets the rim. Both are inexpensive fixes and neither requires a new tire.
How many times can one tire be repaired?
More than one repair is acceptable only if the repairs don't overlap and each is inside the repairable zone. If a tire is collecting punctures faster than that, the real answer is usually that it's picking up debris because it's worn — and it's time to replace it.
